K-Lite Codec Pack

A Codec is a device or program capable of encoding and decoding a multimedia files or signals. Codec can define a way of storing, reading or writing multimedia data.

K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of audio and video components which enables the users to playback numerous audio and video formats. By default, many audio and video formats are not playable. With K-Lite Codec Pack, you can play any multimedia files with any format. It is flexible and easy to use for both beginner and skilled PC users. It includes tools like Media Player Classic, GSpot Codec Information Application and Codec Tweak Tool.

K-Lite Codec Pack

There are five different editions of K-Lite Codec Pack which are available for free of cost. The editions are listed below:

1. Basic: It is the smallest edition which can play Matroska (MKV), MP4, Ogg and Adobe Flash video (FLV) files in addition to common multimedia files. It consists of ffdshow (for audio and video decoding), DirectVobSub (for subtitle decoding), Codec Tweak Tool and few minor components.

2. Standard: It includes all features of the Basic and DVD Video decoder, Media Info Lite and Media Player Classic Homecinema. This enables DVD playback. This package is recommended for normal users.

3. Full: It includes around 31 additional components and few additional tools comparing to Standard edition. However, it has no encoding or conversion tool.

4. Corporate: It does not include few 5 of the components and has a different DVD Video decoder component compared to Full edition. It is recommended for corporate environments. Vendor has discontinued this edition.

5. Mega: It is a combination of Full edition, Real Alternative and few 14 additional components. There is the original Media Player Classic along with Media Player Classic Homecinema, GSpot Codec Information Application and FourCC Changer.

6. 64-bit: It is an independent package of 64-bit codecs that can be used with 64-bit multimedia players on a 64-bit version of Operating System.

The major advantages are as below:

* The program version is updated regularly. Hence it is always up-to-date with the newest codec components.
